5 out of 5 stars Just as expected, maybe a bit more!!!   March 31, 2010

I did a lot of research to find the perfect LCD TV, so I kinda knew what I was looking for

As my second flat screen tv (I had bought the first gen. plasma samsung back at home 5 years ago!) the picture quality is awesome but for most of us the first priority is to get enough HQ or HD resources which are able to bring the best out of this amazing LCD TV

In my case FreeSat HD worked perfectly fine! currently BBC HD + ITV HD + some other international HD channels (ie Luxe TV) bring out half of its qualities which is still amazing!!! I haven't connected a PS3 or blueray yet but I guess the experience of Full HD on it would be surprising again

Very happy with the sound quality, I am very fussy about the sound but I believe the power and quality is more than adequate!!!

If LG can add a media centre to it (which I'm gonna do it myself!!!) It would be bread and butter then! internet connection and browser would easily make it something SO WANTED by all

I'm gonna give the picture and sound quality a 9 out of 10
Design 8/10
User Friendly Remote Control 7/10
Gadgets 6/10

afterall I am Very Happy with my Purchase!

We bought this TV following the review by What Hifi. We are not electronic buffs and looked for a good value TV which had had had positive reviews from reliable sources. The TV was easy to install if awkward to get out of the box. We plugged in our Sky and DVDs to the Scart sockets and were off without any trouble. We have tried the Freesat and as there was only 1 HD channel we left Sky as our main satellite choice. A decent product well priced.

3 out of 5 stars Good picture, shame about the sound, NO "Now & Next programme banner"   December 27, 2009

I bought this product else where, as it was cheaper at the time.

Main reason for buying LG 47LF7700 was the price.
It was the cheapest TV with Freesat HD + Freeview built in.

The picture quality is pretty reasonable, especially with the TruMotion 100Hz enabled.
The pre-set picture setting did not suit my taste, so, I adjusted them accordingly.

The Intelligent Sensor energy saving function is annoying and leaves the picture to dark, or too bright. I turned this to off.
Having said that, it is a usable function to have when using a PC connected to this TV.

When, I change channel, the LG 47LF7700 only shows the channel name/number, but not the name of programme.
There is no "Now & Next programme banner" like there is on Sky, Virgin cable and, FreeView boxes.
Even my old 42" Toshiba TV had the "Now & Next programme banner".

If you want to know what the channel you are watching is showing, you have to press the info button on the remote.
If you want to know what is showing next, press info button followed by the right cursor key.

I emailed LG about the above problem.
The following was the reply from LG:

"Thank you for your email.

The options that appear when you change channel are standard on all our televisions. We would be unable to suggest at this stage whether this fuction will be available on the future software updates on our televisions.

Best regards,
LG Electronics UK Helpdesk"

Also, I found surround sound effect created by the LG's SRS TruSurround XT was pretty poor, compared to my old Toshiba (almost non exsistant).

The cable connection layout on the back of set is not neat, you need about 4" / 6" clearance (On my old Toshiba LCD TV these were out of site, hidden behind 2 clip-able panels.

In case any one wants know the code for the Sky remote to control this TV, it's 1293, there were couple of others, but, I found this code to give the most functions.

Update: After using for almost 2 months.

I have noticed that when you first switch on the TV, I cannot change channels straight away, or, select any of the AV channels.
Basically what you can do with the remote is limited for 30-60 seconds after switching on the set, it's a bit like waiting for the PC to boot up.
