| Customer Reviews: Very pleased. August 19, 2010 tcpip Very pleased with this television.
Easy to set up (although does need two people due to it's size / weight).
Plenty of connections for our DVD, satellite, game console, etc.
Picture is excellent, sound quality is good.
Puchased additional wireless adaptor too, which gives access to (some) internet TV (e.g. channel 5, youtube, etc.).
Looks good in the room.
Remote is not the simplest, but is perfectly ok.
Great value big LCD TV for full HD July 27, 2010 CAS (London, UK) 4 out of 4 found this review helpful
If you need a big TV (thus >= ~2.5m viewing distance), cannot afford 3D/LED and don't want plasma, this could be the TV for you. If you already have SONY hardware it also integrates very nicely.
Screen is not plagued by the various issues of LED versions (cones, spots, clouding), it's big and bright. Some users have reported colour banding issues, luckily this set does not have it.
Sound is fine, much better than thin LED versions, more room for bigger speakers? If you have a SONY receiver, a click on SYNC MENU can switch between TV and receiver audio, a nice touch (optical out).
Freeview HD is fabulous, really makes the TV worth it, pity only 3 channels are available; normal Freeview TV is OK after calibration (see AVForums) but even tweaking the defaults was fine with me. Plenty of picture settings, to calibrate the set professionally if you wish.
100Hz processing works for me, no major artifacts unless cranked very high, IMHO better than Samsung's.
Switching inputs is easy (SOURCE button shows menu) you can assign icons as well as name. I like the PS3-style menu to "normal" menus.
You can also control a DVD/HDD SONY recorder, Blu-ray player, etc. through the TV and this should work with other brands' devices, but never worked properly for me with my (previous) Samsung TV.
Internet works great, the TV also updates firmware without the need to download to USB stick. Demand 5 and Love Film are available at Freeview-like quality (not yet HD), but no BBC iPlayer, Channel 4 or ITV yet. There are some other channels (Eurosport, YouTube, Blip.tv, Tagesschau,) that might be of interest.
IMHO, overall it's better than the Samsung LE55C650 (its closest competitor) picture, sound, navigation, integration wise; the Samsung is thinner with metal back (the Sony is quite deep), has BBC iPlayer, somewhat better looking (red-tinted frame), though more expensive for some reason (+300 when I bought).
Unless you really want 3D or have the money for a LED screen I cannot see a better value LCD TV at this size; there are good plasma TVs out there, depends what you're after.
The world cup in all its HD glory! June 17, 2010 DK (London, England) 3 out of 3 found this review helpful
I bought this TV for the World Cup and it has just about everything I wanted and most importantly the picture quality is excellent. The built-in Freeview HD receiver provides a very sharp, clear and vivid picture. The internet connectivity was easy to configure (I use HomePlug connections rather than the wireless) and displaying photos and playing DivX movies via the USB stick has worked very well.
But best of all has been the ability to control the TV, Sony AV Receiver and Sony PS3 with just 1 remote control. The Bravia synch (via the HDMI) works seamlessly so that when I switch the TV on, the Sony AV Receiver switches on automatically as well, the TV switches sound output to Audio system speakers (so no need to switch off TV volume manually) and finally the AV Receiver switches to TV so that I get instant Surround sound - all with just the push of 1 button on my TV remote. The same when I switch the TV off, it automatically switches the AV Receiver off as well. Its great to be able to put away the other remotes :-)
Note: I do have all Sony kit! If you have a Virgin+ or Sky+ box then I think you may have to buy a programmable remote or live with 2 remotes!
