5 out of 5 stars The time was right to upgrade   September 8, 2010
Kemp (Bedford, England)
After owning a Sony CRT TV for 17 years, I'd been stalling on replacing it whilst LCD TV's were still in their infancy. When I saw a deal for this TV, complete with it's additional Sony functionality for Internet TV at less than I paid for that TV 17 years ago the time seemed right.

It's a great set. The picture is excellent, streets ahead of the old CRT, and the sound is decent too (although I've improved things by hooking up to an Audio system). Setting up the internet was easy too - just plug in a network cable to the TV at one and, and your broadband router at the other end, then register the set with Sony.

One added benefit is that it has two Scart sockets - many in this class only have one, where there manufacturers seem to have forgotten that people have PVRs or DVD players which need scart connections - and there's no simple way of linking those "older" devices to am HDMI socket.

I agree with the comments about the lack of a printed manual - a really serious omission for many users.

The Internet links works well - although I have recently upgraded to O2 broadband who've provided a must faster connection than I had with BT Broadband. It has an option for BBC Iplayer that announces it as "coming soon".

Those who can still get analogue signals will find the old teletext functions streets ahead in terms of saving pages in advance - it seemed that everything I looked for had already been "cached" - what a shame it will be when that service is turned off and the awful digital text is our main source of information.

4 out of 5 stars Sony Bravia full free view hd tv   September 5, 2010

Tv arrived within estimated delivery time. Tv easy to install. HD freeview superb and worth the upgrade cost alhough cost was very competitive. Would have preferred to have a separate detailed handbook as well as the preinstalled version. Could have done with more detailed explanation about linking up laptop for a non techie.

Very happy with this tv, does everything could ever want from a a Sony TV. Very Stylish, especially wall mounted. Also the remote is great looking too. Have also connected my Apple Macbook Pro to the tv, via a Dvi to HDMI cable. Works very well.

Totally different class to my old lg 720p tv, sound is full and bassy with no need to link up to a hi-fi to fill in the bottom end. 1080i freeview hd is very sharp and makes everything look 3D compared to freeview. This is what every tv should be like, truely excellent product. It also has an electronic manual built in which tells you how to change picture modes etc, brilliant idea. Picture is really good as well, handles football really well with no jaggy edged white lines.

Our old telly started to give off that strange electrical plastic burning smell, and turned itself off at random moments. Time for a new one...

We went to our local Currys to see the different sizes before buying on Amazon. Glad we didn't go for anything bigger than 32" - it is still pretty big in an average sitting room. The TV setup was easy, navigation and controls all pretty straightforward and the picture is amazing. Yesterday evening we watched a programme about public parks. We had just come back from holiday and suddenly, looking at those hyper autumnal trees, the prospect of the turning of the seasons back in Blighty seemed perfectly fine.
